Digital Jargon Is All Greek to Leaders
“Net C#, C++, VBS, ERP, OLAP, BI, SSIS, SSRS, ETL, dimensional modeling and data mining”
This is part of the jargon used by Digital Professionals and it is mainly understood by few people in an organization unless it is a technology-intensive business.
The problem is that unless business leaders understand, even to an extent, that language — I dare not say use it — then the gap of the proper exploitation of the skillset and potential of such professionals will become deeper and deeper.
In digital transformation it is critical to have senior professionals superseding the process who can understand the skills acquired on new technologies and the needs of the organization, given that this is a process that cuts across the entire organization.
Alternatively, there is a high risk in losing talent and high potential professionals, and in wasting the resources of the organization.
If for the majority of the Business leaders pursuing digital transformation, this jargon is all “Greek to me”, then this could be a serious barrier for transformation, although personal and professional development will be always led by the human attitude and behavior.
